I've been intrigued by collage for a long time but was not making any progress. I was looking for a jump start to try new idea and methods, and Ann Baldwin's DVD "Telling Stories with Collage and Paint" was the perfect inspiration. Ann provides excellent, detailed instruction, including recommended materials as well as techniques. I've already watched it several times and I'm planning my next collage painting. Thank you Ann!

open with matchsticks (nearly) at 2am in the morning.

arrived, when I got to the 'Bloopers' and especially the 'puffy clouds'

Your explanations are so clear. I love your somewhat “Socratic” approach. I am having so much fun trying to “guess” what your critic will be of different fabrics, embellishments, and placement choices. I’m even finding that I make the same selection that you do for the same reasons or understand why something “doesn’t go”. This is so exciting to me because I am a former accountant with no formal art training other than rubber stamping and a few collage classes. I so love your style and have enjoyed your book. In fact it is on my bed now and is regular nighttime reading and eye candy. I even dream of fabric combinations and layouts. I just finished watching all of Lesley's DVD on fabric altered books and absolutely loved it! I think the best thing about it was that even though I had done fabric books before, I was amazed at the amount of NEW techniques and information that I gleaned from her presentation!!! Another really great thing about this DVD is that even if you are not "into" fabric board books (which I personally really like), you can learn techniques, tips, & methods that can be used in other medias (paper art, scrapbooking, canvas, etc.). I also loved Lesley's easy manner of presentation - I could "see" her creative juices working as she mused over how to prepare her page(s), and I particularly liked the way she builds on her pages, e.g., do a little, come back, do a little more, come back. This technique allows you to integrate your theme into the piece better, pondering each page a little at a time so that you do not feel rushed to finish a page before
you go on to another. There was just so much visual candy that I think I may have to go on a diet!!! (giggle)

The camera loves you!
I did watch it right to the end (pulling out fabrics and stuff while I watched). The bloopers were very funny and surprising too because you looked like such a natural in front of the camera. It must have taken hours to do. The whole thing really was an aha! experience for me because I now understood much better about things like using fluid acrylics and especially the whole transfer thing.
I also think it was a good idea to put the supplies list at the end. At first I though that was weird, but I think if I had seen you show all those supplies at the beginning I would have been intimidated.
I also liked the fact that it was very simple in the camera shots -- very easy to follow. Watching your process for choosing fabrics, colors, and adding elements here and there was also educational and a lot of fun. I found myself trying to guess which fabric you would use and where you were going to put something.
Actually, I can't really think of anything I didn't like. I mean it. And you know me, I speak my mind!

THANKS, MUCH! I stayed up last night till 1:30 a.m. watching the Carrie Burns Brown, "Water Media Collage Workshop." and it's the third time I've watched it. Even though I've been working for some time with most of the materials that Carrie uses, just watching her techniques and listening to her advice is a bargain. I just purchased and received Carrie Burns Brown's "Water Media Collage Workshop" DVD through CCP. As a collage artist, I found this to be one of the BEST sources of inspiration that I have seen for a long, long time!! Often times videos will just rush through the technique and focus on the finished results, but Carrie explained everything that she demonstrated in full detail.
I learned so much from this video, including her wonderful introduction how how she achieved the shades and tints that she uses. I also loved that the video actually "noted" on the screen the names of all of the products that she used, which made it perfect for taking down the information without a question of how she achieved those wonderful looks! I can't say enough about this video.
She really makes the viewer feel that she is there to teach them, not just to sell a video. It makes me want to get right to work trying out some of these new techniques.

Fantastic workshop! Amazing and filled with plenty of variety! Talk about mixed media! I didn't want this video to end. I recommend this DVD to everyone. I have quite a collection of art instruction and this is definitely in my top 10. My daughter, who is not an artist, walked in the room while I was viewing it. She didn't get far and sat down to watch the WHOLE video with me. Traci is so talented and creative. I must add that her look and style is as unique as her artwork!!! Her personality is just charming and sweet. She's also a great teacher. Shares her gift so beautifully. Her book is just as terrific. My age is going to show now, but I must say it... "Traci Bautista is WAY COOL."

I received Traci Bautista's DVD for my birthday in January. I have watched it over and over, and pick up something new each time.
I thought it was brilliant that the DVD was of her teaching at an event. It made it feel more "authentic" - like you are a part of one of her classes. She was responding to real students - not just talking to a camera in an empty room.
I am so grateful that people like Traci are willing to participate in the instructional video/DVD's you produce. Living in Australia, we don't have the same access to so many dynamic artists. Being exposed to USA artists and their amazing work via Somerset Studio and the internet, it is such a gift to have access to their classes via your products.
