"The Menu" - Painting Demonstration
By G. Heaton
I decide where I want my horizon line and paint in distant hills with a mixture of ultramarine, paynes grey and white.
I start work on the sky and the background. I paint storm clouds rising from the right of the painting to stop the viewers eyes from following the lions gaze out of the picture. I also work on the african plains and introduce grazing animals which need to be pushed back in the distance so these are painted loosely with little detail and then 'washed' over with a thin mixture of raw sienna.
The final touches are added to the lion with more detail to the fur, painting in the whiskers and highlighting the eye.
The finished painting.
